Jagello 2000 prepared already the fifth edition of the national conference „Our Security Cannot Be Taken for Granted“, which was held on 1 November 2018 in New Gallery of the Prague Castle. We organized this conference to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of independent Czechoslovakia. The aim of the conference was to review the past 100 years of the Czech and Slovak history and to consider the influence of geopolitics, freedom and democracy on development of the Czech Republic.
The conference further supported the discussion among top politicians, experts, military and security agencies’ representatives about current security situation. Chairmen of all political parties represented in the Chamber of Deputies were invited to the conference, together with ministers and prominent security experts. Gen. Aleš Opata, Chief of Staff of the Czech Armed Forces, and Gen. Petr Pavel, former Chairman of NATO Military Committee participated among others.
As the State of Israel celebrated in 2018 70 years since its founding and both countries have their history closely bound together, Gen. Yair Golan, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israel Defence Forces was invited as the key-note speaker.
One of the main objectives of the event is to facilitate debate on defence and security among top political figures, experts and members of the armed forces and security forces. Over the years, this unique format of interaction and factual discussion between political representation and professional public has earned success and positive responses. Every year are the organizers trying to bring the conference to the general public too via wide media coverage – through the broadcasting, articles on news portals or in security magazines
The 5th edition of the conference was held under the auspices
of Deputy Primer Minister Jan Hamáček
and Minister of Defence Lubomír Metnar.
