The 7th edition of the conferece “Our Security Cannot Be Taken For Granted” took place on 25 June 2020 at the Ball Game Hall of the Prague Castle, seat of the President of the Czech Republic. We are honoured that this year’s speakers included experts, representatives of the Government of the Czech Republic and the chairmen of political parties in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, as well as important foreign guests, incl. Mircea Geoana, NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ministers of Defence of Hungary and the Slovak Republic and others. At the conference featured also an Address from the President of the Czech Republic.
The conference focused on the security aspects of the coronavirus crisis, as well as a broader context of the Czech Republic’s defence and membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. The different approaches of states towards the current situation raise the question of what will be the impact on foreign and security policy, especially taking into account the role of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union. The overall vulnerability of economies and the need to strengthen capacity in critical sectors have also emerged.
The another topic of the conference was the foreign mission in Afghanistan, where Czech armed forces participate in the reconstruction of the country and support its social and economic development together with the strengthening of the country’s security.
One of the main objectives of the event is to facilitate debate on defence and security among top political figures, experts and members of the armed forces and security forces. Over the years, this unique format of interaction and factual discussion between political representation and professional public has earned success and positive responses. It has been proved by many outputs in both Czech and foreign (Reuters, Deutsche Welle, etc.) media, as well as reactions of speakers and guests on their social media sites.
